Entering the classroom and starting the day: Students will observe the “quiet zone” when entering the room. The quiet zone will be an approximately 4’by4’ area outside the classroom door that signals the students to be quiet and enter the room slowly. Upon entering the room students will get their attendance stick from the jar and place it in the lunch tray or lunch box to signal their lunch preference for the day and allow me to see who is absent by the remaining sticks. They will take their seats and begin working on their bellringer. In the event that a student is late for class they will enter quietly follow morning lunch procedure and leave tardy slip on lunch tray when they place their lunch stick for the teacher to pick up when time permits. Absences; Excused and unexcused: Upon returning students will place their doctor’s excuse, if they have one, in the homework binder. The students will be assigned absentee buddies. These buddies will keep a list of any assignments that were given while the other student was absent. At the end of class the homework buddy will place the list of assignments in the homework binder for the absent student to pick up when they return to school. When giving an assignment I will tell the students to please add this to their buddy list. The students will be given credit based on whether or not an excuse was provided. Getting out of your seat: Students will remain seated unless they are working in group or in a way that requires them to get up. If the student needs to use the restroom, they we indicate this by raising their hand with three fingers held up. When acknowledged by the teacher they may walk to the front of the room and get the hall pass and proceed to the restroom. If student needs to sharpen their pencil they will let the teacher know by raising their pencil, and waiting for the teacher to acknowledge them before getting up to sharpen pencil.
Turning in assignments/homework: Students will place their assignments in the Assignment Box. No more than 2 students will be allowed to be on the floor at a time; therefore if there is already 2 students on the floor at the time a student completes their work they must wait until one of them takes their seat before getting up to turn in their paper. Once finished with the assignment they will be allowed to read their library book or finish any work they may need to work on. When the teacher request a homework assignment, students will place their papers in the center of their table and the designated helper will collect the stacks from each table and put them in the homework box in the front of the room.
Quiet down & pay attention signal: When the teacher wants the class’ attention she will raise her hand in the air and say the word attention (I chose to use a spoken word instead of bell because I may not have access to bell when I need to get attention of the class). The students will then stop what they are doing, be silent, face the teacher and wait for further instruction. Paper headings: Students will use the following method to head all assignments turned into the teacher: Leslie Music Subject Date Assignments without the proper heading will be placed in the “unclaimed work” folder. The students may check the folder to see if their assignments are in there, write their names on them and turn them in but they will be graded as late.
Come prepared and stay organized: Students should come to class with necessary materials and prepared to work. Materials include but are not limited to: pencils, paper, books, and any other materials the teacher specifies. Your desk should be clear of all articles except the ones you are using for the current assignment. Your books, backpack, lunchbox, etc. should be kept neatly in or under your desk and out of the aisles. Weekly helpers: Each week one student will be chosen to be the Student of the Week. This student will be in charge of passing out papers or materials. If necessary the teacher will choose 1 or 2 other students to help them. Leaving the classroom (lunch, recess, etc. and dismissal) Whenever leaving the room for any reason except dismissal, students will follow the line-up plan. Students will be seated at tables of 4; these tables will be numbered and the students will line up at the teachers numerical prompt, one table at a time. They will do so quietly. Students will be instructed to remain seated until dismissed by the teacher. They will not put away papers or books prior to the bell. Consequences for not following procedures Students that do not follow procedure will be given a violation card that they will be required to sign and explain the infraction. If student has second offense for the same action the teacher will send a separate violation card home to the parents/guardian to be signed and returned to make them aware of the situation. If a serious problem persists with not follow procedures the parent will be called in to review the situation.
